Do We Actually Need ESRB

Do We Actually Need ESRB? When you think about organization like ESRB, you can’t but wonder why people find the greatest pleasure in their life in causing harm to other people’s business and doing everything to find ways of depriving other people of pleasure. ESRB, or the Entertainment Software Rating Board, was founded in 1994, when the society considered that there was too much violence in a number of video games, such as Mortal Kombat, Doom, Lethal Enforcers and others, and that the game industry needs to be regulated. Since then almost no game passes without being submitted to the ESRB (though it is voluntary, many retailers won’t sell games that haven’t passed the rating, as well as console producers won’t license such games), the content is being removed or suppressed in order to get more lenient attitude from the board, scandals are brought about, when yet another piece of adult content passes unnoticed into a â€Å"Teen† game and the publishers are forced to make cosmetic and not just cosmetic changes in their products in order to please the ESRB. It is hard to say how many people feed on it while producing nothing but ESRB logos to be placed on the boxes with games, but I still can’t understand what it changes. Does the society really believe that children that are supposed to be protected from harmful content have never seen or heard anything about violence, sex, drugs and alcohol? Does it think that a child won’t find a way to get an â€Å"M† rated game if he wants to? The only thing that happens is that a number of people found themselves a sinecure and dictate their will to honest businessmen, who try to make money, and honest buyers, who want to get their share of joy.

That was then this is now Essay Example For Students

That was then this is now Essay As I grow older I find myself and my surroundings changing. Many things about my personality and appearance have altered greatly in the past decade. Ive observed many of these same changes in my family as well as in my friends. Some of my likes and dislikes of certain things are the same as when I was six years old, but not all. From my love of children and every type of critter to my dependency on my parents, my life has changed. From a very young age Ive always loved children. Mom, can I have a little brother and sister to play with? was a favorite question of mine. A little bit later I would learn the answer. I would eventually have both.Other mothers often commented on my motherly instinct when it came to my younger siblings. Ive always liked the feeling of being able to comfort someone smaller than I am. As a child I loved playing dolls and house, always pretending to be the mother. Now I work at a Nursery watching over real children. From my love of children derived my desire t o become a pediatrician. Along with my love of children is my love of animals. A new pet every week was a regular around the Moody House. My friends were always amazed by the array of creatures crawling around my room and shimmying up the curtains. One week Id have eight pet chickens and a guinea pig and the next it was a turtle and bunny rabbit. As I grow older I become a little less interested in having as many pets as possible and a little more content with just the ordinary dog and my pet Iguana. All throughout my life I have depended on my parents. As a young child I searched eagerly in the eyes of my mom and dad for the reassurance I needed whenever I did something new. Holding tightly onto my dads hand as we crossed the street I trusted he would always take me safely across. In the same way I have always trusted they would guide me through life safely. Although I no longer hold their hands when I cross the street I know they are always there. Ive grown into my own person, depending more on myself rather than searching for reassurance through them. I want a lot more space now and it is hard to express that sometimes. Instead of jumping out of bed every morning anxious to create a fantasy world out of blocks with my mom, I slowly drag myself out of bed mumbling about the insanely early hour of the morning. Things are definitely different now that Im not quite so dependent. I still love kids, animals, and depend very much so on my parents, but all three arent quite what they used to be. Instead of playing pretend with my dolls, I work in a nursery. I dont have a zoo in my house, but merely my dog and Iguana. I rely on my parents, but I desire the space and responsibilities that come with age. All in all Id say I like the way things have turned out. Bibliography:

Women Their Rise Over Time Essays - Gender Studies, Antigone

Women: Their Rise Over Time Women: Their Rise Over Time Dating back to ancient times, the role of women has never reached true equality with men. We can trace this inequality back to as early as the great Athenian society, where life as we know it today started taking form. On the other side of the inequality, throughout the ancient history of the world, the roles and positions that women have had have improved over time. We can see this tracing time from Athens, to Sparta, the Roman Republic, its Empire and the rise of Christianity. Although some of theses societies lived parallel in time, each one shows a difference in the way they treat women. Each one did not treat women the same, but the end result compared to the beginning is positive for women. According to Xenophons Household Management in Athenian society the women were looked at as possessions. The Athenian woman would be given to the man by their parents. It was like a business deal and the bride to be had no say in it at all. She was typically much younger than the man. Often times, half their age if the man had a previous wife but was now divorced. To a man, a skilled woman was a valuable tool. The major skills of the woman included cooking, sewing and weaving. The wife simply stayed at home and took care of the house duties. She watched over anything that came in and out of the house. If a woman could tend to the household chores and master sewing or weaving she would be considered valuable. It was her responsibility to manage the house while the men were at work or at war. Once the woman became the property of the man he had the opportunity to control her in any way he liked. She would be kept under strict restraint so that she would see as little, hear as little and ask as few questions as possible. The relationship between the husband and wife saw little romance, it appeared like more of a business relationship than anything else. The woman should feel lucky to have the man as a husband. They consulted together on the potential birth of a child and their main goal was to produce good offspring. All of the power lied within the hands of the husband. (Xenephon) In the exerpt from Antigone, Creon the king represented human law and Haemon, his son represented divine law. Creon was the new King of Thebes and was a strict ruler of the state. On the other hand, Haemon, his son was influenced more by the divine law of gods. They clashed because of their difference in views of women. They disagreed with each other in the treatment of women. Antigone was grieving for her dead brother who broke the law by accidentally marrying his mother and Creon had no sympathy for her what so ever. As punishment, Antigones brother was left unburied so that his corpse would be further ruined by the weather and animals. If the body was mangled, then it could not be worshipped. Antigone didnt want to leave his side because she felt that she owed allegiance to her family instead of the state. So she tried to bury him in the dirt which made Creon angry. Creon was looked at as a bully by the rest of the community but he refused to be beaten by a woman because he could never be weaker than woman kind. He refused to give in to a woman because he believed that women were inferior to men and therefor not be listened to. Haemon felt deep sympathy for Antigone and argued against his fathers opinion. Haemon did not believe that Antigone was sick with disease like his father believed. In the end, Antigone committed suicide. Haemon saw this and he took his own life too. As soon as Creon heard of this happening, he is left in despair. Creon also admitted that his fate had brought him down and his life was permanently warped because he tried to rule above the gods. This showed that while Haemon respected Antigone, the King did not, so there were no
